6-year-old boy dies after falling into Central Kentucky creek, coroner says
A 6-year-old boy from Madison County died on Sunday after slipping into a creek, according to the Madison County Coroner’s office.
Coroner Jimmy Cornelison identified the boy as Leo Xavior Shouse. Cornelison said Shouse and his family were at a creek on Red Lick Road when the child slipped into deeper water.
Emergency responders received a call about a missing child in Red Lick Creek shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife. Family members worked with the Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department to find Shouse, who was unresponsive when he was located.
An emergency responder performed CPR and Shouse was taken to a hospital, according to the fish and wildlife department.
Cornelison said they had to search for “quite some time” to find him. He was taken to the hospital after searchers found him. He later died from his injuries.
Cornelison declared Shouse dead at 9:34 p.m. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife was investigating the incident Monday.
