Madison County motorcycle crash victim identified. Thousands raised for funeral costs
A motorcyclist has died after being involved in a crash in Madison County Tuesday morning, local officials said.
The accident took place shortly before 8 a.m. on Battlefield Memorial Highway (US-421), south of Richmond, resulting in the death of 33-year-old Garrett Ray, according to Kentucky State Police. Ray, who was from Richmond, was operating a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle and traveling south on US-421 when he lost control going around a curve.
Ray crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle being driven by a Berea resident, according to state police.
Ray was pronounced dead at 8:25 a.m. at Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond, Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison said.
Family members of the man who died told Cornelison that Ray was on his way home from work at the time of the crash, he said. A GoFundMe page setup to raise funds for Ray’s funeral said Ray had a wife and two daughters, who were 9 and 3 years old.
“Garrett was a loving, hardworking husband who encouraged his wife to stay home and care for their girls,” the organizer of the page wrote on the GoFundMe. “At only 27, Brianna (Ray) is now a widowed, single parent, planning the funeral of the man she loved and hoped to spend the rest of her life with.”
The page has already raised over $5,000.
The other person involved in the crash was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Berea with minor injuries, state police said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, state police said.
