2 people dead after a head-on collision in Central Kentucky, police say

Two people are dead after a head-on collision in Madison County, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. at at the intersection of Lancaster Road and Malachi Drive. State police said 74-year-old James Jackson of Berea was driving a Ford Taurus east on KY-52 when he crossed the center line, colliding with a Mercury Stable being driven by 62-year-old Matt Spaulding of Stanford.

Spaulding was declared dead on scene by the Madison County Coroner’s Office. Jackson was sent to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital but was pronounced dead there by the Fayette County coroner, according to state police.

A passenger in Spaulding’s vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was sent to UK Chandler Hospital, according to state police.

State police are investigating the crash.
