Four tractor-trailer trucks involved in crash on Central Kentucky interstate, officials say

Two people in Madison County were sent to a hospital Tuesday morning after they were part of a crash involving four tractor-trailers on I-75, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened around 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate near mile-marker 95, just a few miles south of the Kentucky River and the Fayette County line. Deputy Michael Stotts with the sheriff’s office said a tractor-trailer driver may have fallen asleep and hit another tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder of the road.

The impact caused a chain reaction, Stotts said. The second tractor-trailer hit a third tractor-trailer and the third tractor-trailer hit a fourth tractor-trailer.

Two drivers were sent to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, Stotts said. It’s unclear how severe their injuries were.

The collision caused heavy traffic congestion during the morning commute. At 8 a.m., only the farthest left lane was open for traffic, according to Stotts. All lanes were open by about 8:30 a.m. Traffic maps didn’t show a significant lingering impact later Tuesday morning.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
