Crash near Buc-ee’s in Madison County leaves 72-year-old motorcyclist dead

A motorcyclist died after being struck by a car near the Buc-ee’s in Madison County on Wednesday, according to the Richmond Police Department.

The collision happened around 2 p.m. on Duncannon Lane, near the entrance to Buc-ee’s. Police said a vehicle hit a motorcycle that was being operated by William “Bill” Wason, 72, of Richmond.

Wason was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The driver of the vehicle was injured and taken to a medical facility.

No other details about the crash were released. Police said the collision damaged the traffic-light control panel at the intersection, which was replaced by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet after officers left the scene.

The police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
