The Madison County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating reports of needles found in Halloween candy.

The sheriff’s office said it was called to Hager Drive on Friday, and “according to the complainant, they had been trick-or-treating in the area off Highway 1016 in Berea. Upon returning home and inspecting the candy, they discovered needles inside a package of Twizzlers.

“At this time, two needles have been recovered. The investigation is ongoing.”

On Saturday afternoon, the sheriff’s department shared an update in which it said it had received a second report involving a needle found in an Almond Joy candy bar.

“According to the complainant, the family had been Trick-or-Treating in the areas of: Boone Way, Derby Chase & Saratoga Circle in Richmond,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on social media. “Upon inspecting their candy this afternoon, they discovered a needle inside a single package of Almond Joy.”

The sheriff’s office shared three photos on Facebook Friday night that showed a needle in a piece of red Twizzlers candy, and on Saturday, the department shared photos of a needle inside an Almond Joy.

The sheriff’s office said people should check their children’s Halloween candy carefully before letting kids eat it.

Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Dakota Begley at the sheriff’s office.
