Woman in wheelchair dies after being hit by car
A woman in a motorized wheelchair died after being hit by a vehicle Friday night in Versailles.
Mary Drury, 71, was trying to cross Lexington Road near the Kroger Marketplace in Versailles when she was hit by a passenger car just before 9 p.m., said Woodford County Coroner Ronald Owens.
“The driver said he didn’t see her,” Owens said.
Another woman who was with Drury was also in a wheelchair and had just crossed the road and gotten onto the median when Drury was hit, Owens said.
Drury was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred just past the traffic light at the Lexington Road Plaza. There is no crosswalk at the intersection.
Owens said the two women lived about a mile away and were returning home from a trip to Kroger Marketplace when the crash occurred.
