Woodford County

Want to buy the Kentucky Castle? It’s for sale again.

The iconic Kentucky Castle in Versailles is for sale, according to an online listing.

The 53-acre property that fronts U.S. 60 is listed through Silvestri Real Estate on loopnet.com.

The property is being sold through a “call for offers” process, with an initial offer submission date of March 11 and a “best and final date” of March 17, according to the listing.

The price is listed as “upon request.”

The castle operates as a hotel with a spa, restaurant and event space.

A group of investors including two Lexington doctors bought the property for $8.7 million in 2017.

Since then, they’ve spent more than $2 million renovating the 19,355-square-foot property, including adding Castle Spa, a new outdoor pool and sauna and an expanded kitchen, according to the listing.

A “luxury cabin” with three bedrooms and two bathrooms has also been built on the property.

From 2003 to 2017, the castle was owned by Miami lawyer and Lafayette High School graduate Tom Post, who operated it as a boutique inn under the name CastlePost.

A Lexington contractor, Rex Martin, began building the exterior walls of the castle in 1969, but the home sat empty for decades, until Post bought it for $1.8 million and began the restoration process.

A fire in 2004 burned the building, but Post rebuilt it and opened the Woodford County property for public use in 2008.

A series of tour dates have been set for people interested in submitting offers on the property.
