A family entertainment center could soon be coming to Woodford County.

According to Versailles city council member Laura Dake, the city is buying an old Kroger building off U.S. Highway 60, and there are plans to put a family entertainment center on the lot. Mayor Brian Traugott said the sale was not official as of early Wednesday afternoon but terms have been agreed upon, so no issues are expected during closing.

Traugott said the building is currently owned by Uhal and will cost $1.4 million to purchase. The city isn’t going to operate the proposed fun center and is going to serve as a landlord for a few years until the tenant can buy the building, according to Traugott.

“We’re really just acting as a middle man, if you will,” Traugott said.

Traugott said the sale is below market value but the city wanted to provide the opportunity to create a product that’s been requested by Versailles citizens for a while. Traugott said the city will not eat money from the deal.

“That’s a product that the community has really asked for for years,” Traugott said. “We’ve tried through traditional ways, and it’s just too risky of an investment for a lot of people.”

The proposed entertainment center will include several attractions, such as an indoor playground, family restaurant and bar, trampoline area, miniature golf, theater room, arcade, roller coaster simulators, virtual reality experiences, rentable private party areas indoor and outdoor lawn games, outdoor, seasonal roller rink/ice rink, pickleball courts, golf & sport simulators and work space for parents with visibility to all play areas, Dake said.

“Let’s hope that this is a really positive development for Versailles and Woodford County,” Dake said in her Facebook post.
