Two men are dead after they were involved in a head-on collision early Tuesday morning in McLean County.
Jose C. Ojeda-Solis, 41 of Hartford, was traveling northbound on US 431 in his 1999 Toyota Camry when he tried to pass a vehicle in front of him at about 6:40 a.m., said Kentucky State Trooper Corey King in a news release. As Ojeda-Solis attempted the move, he struck Chris Stewart, 36, of Central City, head on. Stewart was in a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. Also in Stewart’s car was Patrick Baxter, 23 of Central City.
The accident happened just north of the Muhlenberg County line, King said.
Baxter and Ojeda-Solis were pronounced dead at the scene, King said. Both men were transported to the Madisonville Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. Stewart was transported by Muhlenberg County EMS to Owensboro Health with serious injuries, King said.
“At this point in the investigation, it is unknown if drugs, alcohol or speed is a contributing factor,” King said. “It’s also unknown if seat belts were utilized. However, at the time of the collision, fog may have contributed to lower visibility for motorists traveling that particular section of US 431.”
