Elliott County woman charged with murder in connection to August accident
An Elliott County woman has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder in connection to an accident in early August.
Teresa Haney, 42, was arrested Tuesday by Kentucky State Police and is being detained in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Johnson County, said Trooper Joe Veeneman in a news release.
Haney was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Thomas Tufts, 46, of Flemingsburg, on Aug. 6 and Janet R. Caskey, 46, of Clearfield, on Aug. 12.
Tufts and Caskey were riding a motorcycle on KY 7 in Morgan County on Aug. 6 when they were struck head on by Haney in a GMC Envoy about 3:29 p.m., Veeneman said.
“Both occupants on the motorcycle were ejected,” Veeneman said in the news release. “The GMC Envoy continued into the ditch line, hit a telephone pole and came to a stop.”
Tufts was pronounced dead at the scene on Aug. 6. Caskey succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 12.
