Driver accused of hitting a pedestrian downtown, driving away
A Lexington driver is accused of hitting a pedestrian downtown early Sunday morning and then driving away.
Dakota Cameron Gay, 25, was arrested on charges of driving without a license, driving under the influence, wanton endangerment, fleeing and evading police, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain insurance, according to the Fayette County jail website.
An officer witnessed a car hit someone who was walking across the street near the 21c Museum Hotel, WKYT reported. The driver, later identified as Gay, as accused of driving off and then almost hitting the officer.
The injured pedestrian walked away toward a parking garage, and was not found by police, WKYT reported. Officers caught up with Gay a short while later on Main Street and arrested him.
Gay is being held in the Fayette County jail.
