Vandals ‘used whatever they could find’ to damage 39 vehicles at Lexington dealership

Vandals damaged 39 vehicles at North Broadway Auto Sales early Saturday.

General Manager Travis Morgan said windows and sunroofs were smashed, mirrors knocked off, hoods damaged and tail lights broken on the vehicles.

“They used cinder blocks, sticks, railroad ties,” he said. “They used whatever they could find out here.”

The vandals also tried to set fire to some of the vehicles. Morgan opened the door to a BMW passenger car to reveal charred carpet in the passenger side floorboard. The sunroof had also been shattered.

Police were reviewing surveillance video Saturday morning in hopes of developing leads in the case.

Morgan said the video showed two to three people who at one point stood on top of cars in the middle of the parking lot of the dealership, at 131 East New Circle Road, to perpetrate the damage.

He said the damage was estimated at $30,000 to $35,000.

“I’ve worked here for 16 years and I’ve never seen something like this,” he said.
