Lexington police on Friday arrested a man in a robbery from a pedestrian on Monday on Cooper Drive after the robber allegedly bought food at a McDonald’s and liquor with a stolen debit card.

Montez Burton, 30, has been charged with first-degree robbery.

On Monday afternoon, a man told police he was robbed at the corner of Cooper Drive and Garden Road by an armed man wearing a bandana and sunglasses. After the victim’s wallet and phone were taken, the armed man fled in a car driven by someone else.

The victim later reported that his debit card had been fraudulently used at a liquor store and a McDonald’s.

Police tracked those purchases to Burton and arrested him after he had a wreck on Russell Cave Road at New Circle Road. The collision was unrelated, police said.

Burton was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in marijuana, and driving without insurance. Burton was being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

Police continue to search for the second suspect.
