Man arrested on murder charge in connection to crash that killed Barbourville woman
A Laurel County man has been arrested after a grand jury indicted him on a murder charge in connection with a fatal crash that killed a Barbourville woman last year.
Eric J. Cassidy, 34, of Lily, was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the death of Sherry Long, who died after a crash on Nov. 30 on Ky. 229, according to the Laurel County sheriff’s office.
Cassidy was driving under the influence of drugs, the sheriff’s office said. He was indicted by a Laurel County grand jury on May 25 on charges of murder; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, second offense, with aggravating circumstance; and being a persistent felony offender.
Cassidy evaded arrest after the indictment but was arrested Friday on Watch Road, about 12 miles southeast of London, after a tip alerted authorities to his location. He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
