Help find a car thief who used the vehicle to shoplift mall merchandise

Police are asking for your help to solve an auto theft and significant shoplifting thefts from Fayette Mall and Hamburg shops for which the vehicle was used. If you have information about this crime, don’t try to take action on your own. Anonymous tips, including photos and videos, can be submitted by texting LEXPD plus the tip to CRIMES (274637). Crime of the Week

This week’s Crime of the Week is an auto theft and shoplifting from July 12.

A victim reported his Chevy Equinox was stolen from Purple Haze on New Circle Road.

The suspect then stole a license plate from an identical make vehicle in Nicholasville.

Business in Hamburg and Fayette Mall have reported significant shoplifting thefts during which the suspect drove away in the stolen vehicle.

Bluegrass Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the solving of this case.

Suspect of the Week

This week’s Suspect of the Week is Caelan Gills, 20. Gills is described as a black man, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds (see photo below). He is wanted on carrying a concealed weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, and tampering with evidence charges.
