80-year-old woman stabbed more than a dozen times. DNA evidence leads to an arrest.
DNA evidence led to the arrest of a Lexington man more than a year after the assault of an 80-year-old woman, police said.
David Williams, 36, was charged Monday with burglary and assault in connection to the attack on Aug. 5, 2016, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said.
The victim told investigators that a man broke into her home on Dogwood Drive, awoke her and demanded money. She told the intruder that she didn’t have any money, and he stabbed her more than a dozen times, causing small puncture wounds; took a small amount of cash; and ran off.
The investigation revealed that Williams had targeted the victim after she bought a vehicle from Williams’ family, police said.
Williams was being held Monday in the Fayette County jail.
