One man has been taken to the hospital after being shot near Broadway Avenue and Transylvania University Thursday morning.

At about 9:30 a.m., Lexington police responded to 5th Street after multiple reports of gunshots fired in the area. On their way there, Transylvania Public Safety informed police that they found a gunshot victim nearby.

The gunshot victim was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The shooting occurred on 5th Street and Brent Alley between two males who apparently knew each other, but witnesses told police said they do not live in the area. They were talking to one another in Brent Alley before the gunfire, according to police.

As the victim was walking away from the exchange toward North Broadway, the suspect pulled out a pistol and shot at him multiple times, police said.

Two homes, one on the corner of 5th and Broadway and the other on the corner of 5th and Kenton Street, were struck by stray bullets. No one inside the homes was injured, police said.

Police said the suspect is still at large but the public is not in danger.
