Stabbing victim dies. Assault suspect now faces more serious charge.

The charge against a Berea man was upgraded to murder after a stabbing victim died.

Ricky Arvin, 40, was initially charged with assault Tuesday night, but a murder charge was filed Wednesday after the victim died earlier in the day.

The victim was identified by the Fayette County Coroner as 43-year-old Jay Drake. He died just after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington.

At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Berea police responded to an assault in the 100 block of Dinsmore Street.

They found that the victim with severe injuries. Arvin was arrested without incident.

Arvin was taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
