The parents of a 13-month-old baby were arrested after the child was found with infected cigarette burns on her backside.

The Laurel County sheriff's office made the arrests after responding to a complaint "that social services was investigating at apartments" about nine miles south of London, where a baby had been taken into protective custody, according to a news release.

The sheriff's office said the baby was treated at St. Joseph Hospital London and then transferred to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Her biological parents, Jessica Mae Sams, 26, and Thomas Lee Tallon, 26, both of Corbin, were arrested at 10:33 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

They were taken to the Laurel County Detention Center and charged with first-degree criminal abuse.
