Lexington shooting victim found dead in backseat of car identified

Lexington police are investigating the shooting death of a man found in the backseat of a car about 3 a.m. Sunday at North Broadway and West Short streets.

Kerry Douglas Kenney, 31, of Lexington was pronounced dead at 4:14 a.m. Sunday after being found inside the parked vehicle, according to the Fayette County Coroner's Office. After the scene was investigated, Kenney's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office and an autopsy was performed.

Kenney's death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the coroner's office.

Police said they do not believe the shooting occurred there.

Police also said they are interviewing several witnesses but no arrests have been made.

The death marks Lexington's 17th homicide of the year. Lexington had a record number of homicides last year with 28.

Funeral arrangements are pending, according to the coroner's office.
