His Facebook post attracted an iPhone buyer in Lexington. Then, he pounced, police say
A man was charged Sunday when Lexington police learned he allegedly used Facebook to lure a victim to a robbery.
Sunday afternoon, a victim stated he responded to a Facebook post advertising the sale of an iPhone. When the man arrived on Judy Lane to purchase the phone, he was approached by William Tre Handy holding a semi-automatic pistol, police said. Handy, 19, took the victim's wallet and cash and fled to a nearby apartment.
Judy Lane is between Paris Pike and Russell Cave Road.
Handy was located at a nearby apartment and arrested. He was charged with robbery. He has been jailed in the Fayette County Detention Center.
Facebook has warned its users to meet sellers in a public place, such as a coffee shop, grocery store, shopping mall or police station. It also advises buyers and sellers to view a person's profile to learn more before the purchase.
