Man charged in string of downtown Lexington car break-ins

A man has been charged in connection with a string of downtown car break-ins, according to Lexington police.

Travis Alan Asher, 26, is charged with four counts of theft from a vehicle, one count of theft of a controlled substance and two counts of drug possession, according to police. The thefts he is charged with occurred on Virginia Avenue, Mill, Upper and Short streets.

Surveillance video was used to identify Asher as a suspect in the thefts and investigators found items that were reported stolen, including a social security card and prescription medication, in his possession, according to police.

Police remind residents to lock their vehicle doors and avoid leaving valuables in cars.

Asher is being held in the Fayette County jail on a $5,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
