On Saturday afternoon, Brandy Johnson, a waitress at Coe’s Steak house in Russell Springs, clocked out for her break at her job.

“She fixed her food, got a drink and then went out to a vehicle in the parking lot where she worked. She had probably planned to contact her sons who were at football games and see how they were, or maybe talk to her husband. Whatever she planned to do was stopped in an instant however when a man walked up to her and shot her multiple times at point-blank range, “ her boss Gerald Coe posted on a GoFundMe page.

Johnson, 35, was shot about 2 p.m. Saturday.

Russell Springs Police Chief Joseph Irvin confirmed a WKYT-TV report that Jason Clark, 42, left after the shooting but was apprehended by Kentucky State Police and confessed to the killing.

Clark bought the gun on Saturday intending to kill Johnson, Irvin told the Herald-Leader.

Police found the weapon at another location. Clark was charged with murder, Irvin said.

The Coe Steak House owner told WKYT-TV the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner that Johnson had no problems with anyone. He said the steak house is gathering donations for her funeral and for her four children.

A GoFundMe page set up for Johnson said that “tonight there are four children she left behind that will never speak to their mother again. There is (a) husband who will never laugh with his wife again,” the post said.

Several people commented on the steak house’s Facebook page that Johnson was kind and sweet.

Dillan Kerns wrote on Facebook: “She was one of my favorite waitresses so kind and sweet and always had a good conversation I’ll be praying for her family and the Coe’s family as well. I hope they throw the book at that man he doesn’t deserve to see daylight again.”

“In the years Brandy has worked for me I have learned one thing above all else, she loved her family. She was always talking about their baseball, football or whatever else the kids were involved in. It’s selfish for me to say that I, along with her coworkers are heartbroken over this when I know none of us could even imagine what her family is going through”, Gerald Coe’s Go Fund Me post said.
