Man shot in Laurel Co. AMVETS parking lot - on Veterans Day
Laurel County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting in a parking lot of AMVETS, a veterans organization, near London that sent one man to the hospital.
Laurel County sheriffs were called to the AMVETS parking lot off of U.S. 25 about nine miles south of London shortly after 12:20 a.m. Saturday in response to a dispute between two individuals that led to shots being fired. Afterwards, Donnie Mabe, 69, walked into the Baptist Health in Corbin with a gun shot wound. Mabe was transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he is in the intensive care unit, according to police.
William Helton of Corbin later called 911 to tell police he thought he shot someone in AMVETS parking lot.
Police are still investigating the incident to determine what happened. As of Sunday, no one has been charged in connection with the incident.
