They fought in Lexington before a gun came out. One brother is dead; the other charged.

A 26-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his older brother at a home near Man o’ War Boulevard and Boston Road Thursday in Lexington, according to Lexington police.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a report of shots fired at a Krissy Way home and found Jaymes Coffey, 28, with a gunshot wound, according to police and the Fayette County coroner.

Jaymes Coffey died at the scene, according to police.

The younger brother, Timothy Coffey, was allegedly in a verbal argument with his older brother when he shot him, police said. A witness saw Coffey flee the scene, and officers later found him on Pierson Drive, which is off Russell Cave Road.

Coffey was charged with murder and was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.

It’s the 22nd homicide this year in Lexington and first firearm homicide since July 29, according to police data. All but three of the city’s homicides this year have been through gunfire.
