Man indicted for murder of Cynthiana man whose body was found along river in 2015

Nearly four years after a Cynthiana man’s body was found along a river in Harrison County, a man has been indicted in connection with his death.

Cynthiana police said a Harrison County grand jury on Tuesday indicted Jonathan Tyler O’Connell in connection with the death of Billy G. Combs Jr.

O’Connell, 23, was indicted on charges of murder, complicity to murder, tampering with physical evidence and complicity to tampering with physical evidence.

Police said a co-defendant is also being prosecuted in the case, but they did not release that person’s name. The person is an adult but was a juvenile at the time of the alleged offenses, and the case is being handled by Harrison Juvenile Court, police said in a news release.

Combs was 33 when his body was found on the edge of the South Fork of the Licking River on Dec. 22, 2015.

O’Connell was already being held in the Little Sandy Correctional Complex, court records indicate.

He is serving time for burglary, receiving stolen property, custodial interference, theft by deception and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
