Dad armed with shotgun kidnaps his newborn’s mom outside Kentucky hospital, police say
An 18-year-old Louisville man was charged Monday after threatening to kill the mother of his newborn child and kidnapping her, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
The incident occurred Dec. 4 in front of Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where Anthyun Mask is accused of pulling up in a vehicle and threatening the mother of his newborn, who was in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, police said.
Mask held a shotgun, chambered a round and demanded that the woman get in his vehicle, according to an arrest citation. He told the woman he would kill her if she did not follow his order, court records show.
Mask also pointed the shotgun at an observer and said, “You want some of this?” prior to firing a round out the front passenger window, police wrote in Mask’s arrest citation.
The female victim, “being in fear for her life,” got in Mask’s vehicle and he drove her to her grandmother’s home before leaving the scene, police said. The woman returned to the hospital and called police, and while police were investigating, Mask was allegedly calling and texting the victim and her sister, according to court records.
“A security officer overheard (Mask) tell the victim that if she was hiding behind the police, (Mask) would come up there and ‘smoke’ the victim and the police,” a court record said.
The woman denied being back at the hospital and told Mask she was going to her grandmother’s home, according to court records. Mask then said he would go there and “smoke” the woman and her family, an arrest citation said.
Police were called to the victim’s home the next day because Mask was allegedly knocking on the door and harassing the victim, according to court records. The victim said Mask was possibly armed and was “attempting to shoot up the house,” police said.
Mask left the home before police arrived and warrants were issued for his arrest. He was captured Monday and charged with kidnapping, wanton endangerment, menacing and terroristic threatening, court records show.
He pleaded not guilty Monday and remains in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $15,000 bail, according to court records.
The woman has filed an emergency protection order against Mask.
