Four arrested in connection with fatal Laurel County shooting

Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting that fatally wounded a man Sunday in Laurel County.

Deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office were called at 1:21 a.m. Sunday to a house off Old Ky. 30, about five miles north of London, according to the sheriff’s office. They arrived to find a man who had been shot in the chest with a pistol.

The injured man, identified as 28-year-old Michael Bailey, was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital where he died of his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

Douglas Earl Bailey, 44, of East Bernstadt was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with first-degree assault in a domestic violence situation and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Crystal Nicole Johnson, 38, of London and James Brian Hart, 46, of East Bernstadt were both also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Dewain N. Bailey, 50, of East Bernstadt was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to the sheriff’s office. He told investigators that he’d taken meth before the reported shooting.

The four who were arrested were taken to the Laurel County jail. Additional charges are expected, according to the sheriff’s office.
