Kentucky high school basketball coach, former SEC Player of the Year, charged with DUI

A Western Kentucky high school basketball coach, who played five seasons in the NBA after an illustrious career at Vanderbilt, was arrested on drunken driving charges New Year’s Day.

Dan Langhi, 42, is accused of driving under the influence and traveling 98 mph in a 70 mph zone Wednesday, according to an arrest citation obtained by WPSD. Langhi is head coach for the Marshall County High School girls’ basketball team.

When a Marshall County sheriff’s deputy pulled over Langhi at 7:20 a.m., the deputy smelled an odor of alcohol on him, the arrest citation said. Langhi blew .103. in a preliminary breathalyzer test, according to the arrest citation. The legal limit is .08.

A Marshall County High School graduate, Langhi was the 1999-2000 co-SEC Player of the Year during his senior year at Vanderbilt. By averaging 22.1 points per game, he became the first Commodore to lead the conference in scoring since 1965.

After his senior year at Vanderbilt, Langhi went on to play four seasons in the NBA and several more professional basketball seasons overseas.

In 2018, Langhi was named the head coach for the Lady Marshals, following three years as an assistant coach with the program. He also previously coached the school’s volleyball team. He’s listed as a teacher on the high school’s website.

The school announced Thursday afternoon Langhi was suspended indefinitely, WPSD reported. The acting coach for the Lady Marshals Is Aaron Beth, who is also a Marshall County grad who played college basketball at Vanderbilt.
