Garrard County man wanted to be with jailed girlfriend. He got his wish in a unique way.

A Garrard County man is facing multiple drug charges after he told an officer he wanted to go to jail to be with his girlfriend, according to police.

Raymond Pace, 47, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

Pace called dispatch on Jan. 4 saying he wanted to report a stolen laptop, according to the Garrard County Police Department. When officer Steven Debord arrived to take the report, Pace said that he needed to go to jail for five months, according to police.

Pace, who appeared to be intoxicated, told Debord that his girlfriend was in jail for five months, and that he needed to be there with her, so she wouldn’t be stressed, according to police. He asked Debord if assault of a police officer would get him five months, according to police.

Debord told Pace that he “didn’t want to do that,” and offered to talk with him to work out the problem, according to police. While Debord was in Pace’s home, Pace shoved Debord’s shoulder, according to police.

Debord told Pace that he needed to go to bed and sleep off the alcohol he’d drank, according to police. Instead, Pace reached under a couch and pulled out a box of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Debord arrested Pace, who then — while handcuffed — pointed out a small bag of suspected heroin to Debord, according to police.

In all, Debord seized syringes, drug paraphernalia, 23.8 grams of methamphetamine and 1.1 grams of heroin and took Pace to jail, according to police.
