One of two men charged in death of Lexington 2-year-old pleads guilty
A man has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in connection with the 2016 death of a two-year-old girl in Lexington, according to media reports.
On the night of Dec. 5, 2016, Nova Gallman was sitting with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend in the living room of a house on Kenton Street when there was a knock at the door, according to police. When Nova’s mother’s boyfriend answered the door, two men came inside and demanded money.
A fight broke out and multiple shots were fired, injuring Nova and her mother’s boyfriend, according to police. Nova died of her injuries.
Adrian Dunn, 23, and Marquis Thurman, 23, were each charged in 2017 with murder, first-degree assault, wanton endangerment and first-degree robbery in the case.
After the shooting, Dunn and Thurman were arrested at a hospital, where they’d sought treatment for their own injuries from the shooting, according to police.
On Thursday, Dunn pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter and a count of tampering with evidence, Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney Lou Anna Red Corn said.
Dunn’s first-degree assault and wanton endangerment charges were dismissed.
Dunn is set to testify against Thurman in his upcoming trial.
Dunn’s count of manslaughter carries a recommended sentence of 15 years in prison and the tampering with evidence charge has a recommended five-year sentence, Red Corn said.
Dunn is set to be sentenced on April 9.
