Former Central KY teacher indicted on child pornography charges, ordered detained

A former teacher at a Richmond private school was indicted Thursday on child pornography charges.

A federal grand jury indicted Larry D. Foley, 48, of Berea for allegedly receiving, distributing and possessing images of child porn, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Robert M. Duncan Jr.

The indictment charges that Foley received and distributed images of child porn in December 2018 and also that he possessed illegal images last month, according to the release.

Foley was a teacher LaFontaine Preparatory School in Richmond before the FBI and the Berea Police Department began investigating him.

Foley had previously been in the U.S. Army.

Authorities arrested him in early January, and school founder Gus LaFontaine said he fired Foley.

LaFontaine said Foley had taught social studies in the third through fifth grades at one point, but that police told him the child-porn allegations did not involve any students at the school.

Kimberly Kidd, a special agent with the FBI, testified at a hearing last month that her initial review of Foley’s cell phone found more than 20 images of child pornography.

Sone images showed children under age 12 engaged in sexual activity, according to a court record. Kidd said some of the images included children younger than 6.

Foley was ordered detained until trial.
