Woman in middle of a Ky. highway stole the car of a woman who stopped to help, sheriff says
A woman who was standing in the road in Laurel County stole a car from another woman who stopped to check on her Sunday night, the sheriff’s office said.
The woman whose car was stolen told sheriff’s deputies that when she stopped to check on the woman along the Hal Rogers Parkway about three miles east of London, the woman grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her violently, then pushed her away from the Chevrolet Malibu she was driving and got in, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies who were already in the area investigating a complaint about a woman walking in the middle of the Hal Rogers Parkway arrived to see the victim standing on the side of the road and the “Malibu pulling away from the shoulder,” according to the release.
Deputies said they followed the woman, later identified as Rhonda Wright, 50, of Parkers Lake, eastbound on the parkway and got her to stop about two miles from where she allegedly stole the car.
She was arrested at 11:58 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
Wright was being held in the Laurel County Detention Center Tuesday on $25,000 bond. She faces charges of second-degree robbery, second-degree disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, menacing and resisting arrest.
