KY restaurant operator sentenced to prison for child porn, underpaying workers

A Frankfort restaurant operator who admitted underpaying workers and receiving child pornography was sentenced Wednesday to five years and 10 months in federal prison.

An investigation showed Fei Guo Tang, 49, had five videos on his telephone that showed minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to a court record.

Tang, a native of China, also pleaded guilty to not paying the required minimum wage or overtime to employees at the Asian Buffet restaurant, including workers who had entered the U.S. illegally.

Tang shorted workers more than $60,000. He agreed to pay restitution as part of his plea.

He also agreed to pay $120,000 to the government in lieu of giving up property, and to pay $20,000 to the U.S. Labor Department.

U.S. District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove sentenced Tang Wednesday.

Tang’s brother, Fei Zhou Tang, who owned the Asian Buffet restaurant in Shelbyville, pleaded guilty to making false statements in wage-reporting documents and underpaying workers nearly $230,000 they were due.

He is to be sentenced next month.
