Lexington police investigating after man killed, two others injured in shooting

Lexington police are investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured two others Sunday afternoon outside a downtown apartment building.

Officers found the three victims after being called to the 500 block of East Second Street for a report of multiple shots fired, police Lt. Dan Truex said. Two of the victims had life-threatening injuries and one had injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, he said. All three were taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where one later died.

Zion Clark, 20, died of his injuries at the hospital about half an hour after the shooting, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The other two men who were injured are 21 and 19 years old, police said Monday.

As of Sunday night, investigators were still working to find out what happened. It is thought that there may have been multiple shooters, and that more than 10 shots were fired, Truex said.

The shooting happened at the rear of an apartment building near the intersection of East Second and Race streets. The building was damaged, but no other damage or injuries were reported, Truex said.

After the shooting, a large crowd of people gathered at the scene, Truex said. They were concerned that the victims may have been their relatives.

Investigators were at the scene for several hours Sunday gathering evidence.
