Crime and coronavirus: Suspect wearing surgical mask flees scene of Lexington robbery

Lexington police are seeking a suspect in an armed robbery who was wearing a surgical mask when he committed the crime.

The call for armed robbery from Cash America Pawn at 212 E. New Circle Road came in around 10 a.m. The suspect flashed a West Virginia drivers license to get into the store, Lt. Andrew Daugherty of the Lexington Police Department said. He then threatened employees with a black pistol and fled on foot with money from the store.

Police did not catch the suspect at the time and are still actively searching, Daugherty said. Daugherty also said the suspect is about 5-foot-5-inches, 140 pounds, and was wearing a hooded jacket. He is believed to be armed with the handgun he had. Police did not disclose the amount of money the suspect took.

Anyone with information on the suspect is encouraged to call the Lexington Police Department at (859) 258-3600.
