Police chase after woman covered in blood running on Lexington’s New Circle Road

Lexington police apprehended a woman running naked and covered in blood on a major street Tuesday.

The woman was suffering from a mental crisis and had self-inflicted injuries, police said several hours later.

Lexington’s police and fire departments responded to a passerby’s call just before 7 a.m. that a woman was running naked around the 300 block of East New Circle Road at a major intersection with Bryan Station Road. Responders discovered she was covered in blood and other body fluids, said police Lt. Andrew Daugherty.

She was first spotted by the White Castle. She was chased to several locations before she was eventually caught at a Marathon gas station, Daugherty said.

Police were initially unsure where the woman came from or what happened prior to the call. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by ambulance, Daugherty said.
