Updated: Lexington shooting leaves victim with life-threatening injuries, police say

Police released the name of the suspect in a shooting on Cambridge Drive that left a victim with life-threatening injuries in Lexington.

Police are looking for a William Bruce Cayson, who is wanted on two counts of assault, according to Sgt. Donnell Gordon.

Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Cambridge Drive around 4:45 p.m. Monday, according to Gordon, where they found a shooting victim lying on the ground.

The victim had at least one gunshot wound in his side, Lt. Andrew Daugherty said.

Police said officers had been called to the same area around 2:45 p.m. Monday for a report of assault with a weapon. The victim told police that Cayson struck him with a gun, according to Gordon, but Cayson fled the scene before police arrived. The victim on that call was the same victim who was later shot, Gordon said.

The victim was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Daugherty said. Police did not have an update on his condition Tuesday morning.
