Ky. man had 38 pit bulls chained in poor condition. Now he’s charged with animal cruelty.
A Frankfort man is facing 38 counts of animal cruelty after law enforcement authorities say they found 38 pit bulls in poor condition chained up on his property.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said some of the dogs they found on the Adams Lane property belonging to David Allen Jackson, 45, had mange, several had heart worms “and were severely and physically neglected,” many had dental issues and nine were pregnant.
“The dogs were tied to stakes in the ground, trees, and other immovable objects with very large metal chains, one of which weighed approximately 42 pounds,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Tuesday. “The animals had been there for quite some time. Many of them did not have any clean water or food in their bowls and very little shelter from the elements.”
Jackson was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Franklin County Regional Jail, according to the jail website.
The sheriff’s office said the dogs were found on the afternoon of April 14 through a joint effort between the narcotics units of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Frankfort police. They said they were acting on information received from an animal cruelty investigator for Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control.
The dogs were seized with help from the Franklin County Humane Society, Franklin County Animal Control, Woodford County Humane Society and Anderson Humane Society, and all are receiving medical treatment, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said more charges are likely to be filed in connection with the case.
