Man wanted for California murder was caught in Kentucky trying to flee, FBI says

The FBI arrested a man in Frankfort Thursday night after he allegedly tried to avoid prosecution for murder in Los Angeles,, according to the FBI’s Louisville field office.

Frederick McGowan, 59, was arrested at 9:09 p.m. Thursday, the FBI said. He was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. McGowan had a warrant out for murder in Los Angeles County.

He was accused of shooting and killing Earl Chiles in December 2019 after a “verbal confrontation,” according to the FBI.

Special agents from the FBI’s Louisville field office worked with the Frankfort Police Department to arrest McGowan at a residence on Quachita Trail, according to Timothy Bean, a spokesman for the FBI Louisville field office. McGowan surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, the FBI said.

Phillip Morris, age 29, allegedly tried to obstruct the arrest and was taken into custody by the Frankfort Police Department, the FBI said.
