Two injured after shots fired, vehicle rammed near New Circle Road in Lexington

Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash at a scene where shots were fired near Boardwalk and New Circle Road Tuesday night.

“There were two SUVs involved and one was shooting at and, I guess, ramming the other one,” said Lexington police Lt. Ronald Keaton.

Lexington police were called to the area at 8:22 p.m. and found an adult and a teen hurt and trapped in a crashed SUV, he said.

He said the occupants were freed by the fire department and taken to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Keaton said that when police were called, one of the occupants of the SUV was thought to have been shot, but that was not accurate. Both were injured as a result of the collision, he said.

Keaton said the other SUV fled the scene and was later found abandoned on Northland Drive. He said it had been reported stolen.

No suspects were in custody as of 10 p.m.
