Kentucky man, woman charged with murdering the woman’s mother, who was blind
A man and woman have been arrested and charged with the murder of the woman’s mother in Hardin County.
Kathy Erbelding, 63, of Elizabethtown, was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in her home at 398 Wise Lane Thursday night, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.
Erbelding was legally blind and was the mother of Krystal Erbelding, 33, of Elizabethtown, who is one of two people charged with her murder, the Associated Press reported.
The AP reported that Kathy Erbelding, who was shot in the head and abdomen, is thought to have died Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
State police said they were notified about a possible homicide at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, and after obtaining a search warrant, they found Erbelding’s body at 9 p.m.
As police were approaching the home, Jacob Lugmayer, 27, of Radcliff, fled, according to a police uniform citation filed in Hardin District Court.
He was found on foot and admitted to police that he had tried to dispose of Kathy Erbelding’s body and had thrown his phone into the woods.
According to the police citation, Krystal Erbelding told officers that upon Lugmayer’s suggestion, she withdrew $700 from her mother’s account after her death and deposited it into her own account.
State police said Lugmayer and Erbelding are both charged with murder, robbery and abuse of a corpse. Lugmayer also is charged with tampering with physical evidence.
Both were being held in the Hardin County Detention Center.
