Man charged after Lexington child injured in accidental shooting, police say

A 3-year-old boy is expected to recover after accidentally shooting himself Sunday afternoon, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Old Main Street just before 1:45 p.m. Sunday where they found a young child who had accidentally shot himself with a handgun he found in the home, Lt. Jeremy Tuttle said. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, Tuttle said.

Investigators determined the shooting was accidental, Tuttle said.

However, Richard Shelton, 28, was charged evidence tampering, according to Sgt. Donnell Gordon.
