Lexington teenager hospitalized after he claims he got caught in gunfire, police say

A Lexington teenager is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting on Locust Avenue Tuesday night, according to police.

Police received a call of shots fired in the 400 block of Locust Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Chris Van Brackel said. Responders found a 15-year-old boy who had been shot but his injuries weren’t life threatening., Van Brackel said. Officers on patrol also heard the gun shots, Van Brackel said.

The boy told police he was walking on Locust Avenue when he heard the gunfire and tried to run, but still wound up getting caught in the shooting, Van Brackel said.

He was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital by an ambulance, Van Brackel said. He also said there were no suspects identified immediately.
