Kentucky man shot, charged with attempted murder after car struck officer, police say
A Kentucky man has been hospitalized and charged with attempted murder and drug trafficking after he allegedly hit a state trooper with his car during a traffic stop, according to Kentucky State Police.
Randy Sullivan, a 21-year-old Williamsburg resident, was pulled over by a state trooper Tuesday evening. The trooper saw drugs in the car and asked Sullivan to get out, according to police.
Sullivan allegedly refused, and attempted to flee the scene, hit the officer and dragged him with his car, police said.
The officer shot Sullivan, but his injuries weren’t life threatening. He was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, police said. The trooper was not injured in the altercation.
In addition to attempted murder of a police officer and drug trafficking, Sullivan has been charged with evading police, wanton endangerment, felony handgun possession and multiple traffic violations, according to police.
Linda Adams, 42, was a passenger in the car and she was charged with trafficking methamphetamine. She was taken to the Whitley County Detention Center.
State troopers were in the area to search for a fugitive, but Sullivan was not connected to that case, Trooper Scottie Pennington said.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response team and KSP Post 11 were investigating the incident, police said.
