55-year-old man found wounded in Lexington, later dies in city’s 11th homicide
One man died after a shooting in Lexington Wednesday, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Lowell Anthony Johnson, 55, died at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center after he was shot on Augusta Drive, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office.
Officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 1800 block of Augusta Drive around 9:30 a.m., Sgt. Donnell Gordon said. They found Johnson with a gunshot wound to the body, Gordon said.

Johnson’s death is the 11th homicide in Lexington this year, according to Lexington police statistics. There have now been more homicides this year than in the same period in 2019, a record year for homicides. However, 20 of the 30 Lexington homicides in 2019 happened in the last six months of the year.
No one has been taken into custody in Johnson’s death, police said. Police and the coroner were investigating.
Gordon said there were believed to be people in the area at the time of the shooting, and police want witnesses to come forward with information that might help the case.
