Lexington police release video in search for suspect in assault during Monday’s protest
The Lexington Police Department released video on social media Wednesday seeking help identifying a suspect in an alleged assault that took place during Monday night’s protests downtown.
Police said that a group of protesters “acted outside of an otherwise peaceful event” and attacked a car driving at Midland Avenue and Main Street. The driver and his wife were both pulled out of the car and beaten by three men, police said. The driver suffered a concussion, and his wife suffered a swollen eye, police said.
The victims’ three children were in the car when the assault happened, police said.
The department previously took Kaulbert Wilson, 19, into custody and charged him with assault, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, evading police, inciting a riot and menacing. Police said he broke a car window, removed the driver and punched him in the head. Police also said he jumped on top of a police cruiser and tried to get other protesters to flip it over while an officer was inside.
The video released by police was not from the assault, police said. It was from a separate incident earlier in the night in which police said Wilson and the other suspect were seen jumping on someone else’s car.
The couple told police that the unidentified suspect featured in the video broke a window on their vehicle by hitting it multiple times with a skateboard, police said.
Police released an additional video of the suspect on the department’s Facebook page Thursday morning. It was featured in the comments section of the initial video.
The suspect is the man holding a skateboard.
Police have that anyone with further information about the incident or identity of the suspect call (859) 258-3600. Anonymous tips, including photos and videos, can be submitted by texting LEXPD plus the tip to CRIMES (274637).
The second video is also not from the assault.
Police said they also took a 15-year-old boy into custody during Monday night’s protest, which extended into Tuesday morning. He was charged with disorderly conduct and menacing, but was released to a family member without being jailed, police said.
