Central Kentucky man charged with attempted murder. Victim shot several times.

A Wilmore man has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting Thursday night, police said.

Robert William Lewis, 46, was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police Thursday night, police said. He was wanted for shooting another man “several” times with a handgun in Harrodsburg Thursday, according to Tim Hurt, assistant police chief in Harrodsburg.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired with a man down just before noon in the 500 block of Bellows Mill Road, Hurt said. They found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Hurt said.

Lewis fled the scene and was involved in a hit-and-run in town later on, Hurt said. Lewis abandoned his vehicle. He was later taken into custody by KSP, Hurt said.

Hurt said he is unsure if the victim will recover, and there will likely be more charges pressed against Lewis as the investigation continues.
