Lexington police investigate after shots fired into home with children inside
Lexington police are investigating after shots were fired into an occupied home near Pimlico Parkway on Wednesday.
Police were called to the 3200 block of Mammoth Drive for a report of shots fired into a home at 11:48 a.m., police Lt. Chris Van Brackel said.
A man, woman and their two children were inside the home when the shots were fired. Bullets were found inside, but no injuries were reported, Van Brackel said.
Witnesses told police that after the home was shot at, “the homeowner came out the front door and fired shots in defense of his home,” Van Brackel said.
Witnesses told police that the person who fired at the home was in a small red SUV, Van Brackel said.
A vehicle was struck during the shooting and drove to another location, where police also responded. Investigators are still working to learn if the vehicle was hit accidentally, Van Brackel said.
The owner of the home that was shot at left after the shooting, and as of about 2:30 p.m., police had not been able to speak with him, Van Brackel said.
No injuries were reported in either shooting, Van Brackel said.
The investigation into what happened is ongoing and police remained at the scene Wednesday afternoon.
